Invite Friends To Your World: DQIX Multiplayer Detailed

Dragon Quest IX: Hoshizora no MamoribitoFamitsu has an article up now explaining the flow of multiplayer part of Dragon Quest IX: Hoshizora no Mamoribito, something I’m always interested in, so let’s see how does it work.

Before you start, you can choose to be a host and invite your friends to join your party or a guest by joining them. It appears that the offline and online adventure will be seamlessly integrated, if you are a host, you’ll simply continue your offline adventure with your friends.

Multiplayer Set-up

Dragon Quest IX: Hoshizora no MamoribitoThe next step will be going to Ruida Inn and talk to the girl named Laviel at the counter and choose the second option (left) if you want to be a host or the first option if you want to join your friend’s party. It’s off to adventure next, you can see all your friends in Ruida once connected, each with their own unique look depending on the kind or armors they choose to wear. More party set-up screens below.

Laviel

Dragon Quest IX: Hoshizora no MamoribitoLaviel (left) is the newest characters in Ruida Inn to be revealed, she spots an angel look with her wings and halo and she opens up the ‘other world’ (the multiplayer section) for players. Her origin is still a mystery and Famitsu ask if there will be other angels in the game too.

Dragon Quest IX: Hoshizora no MamoribitoIf you are a guest, you are free to leave the party and venture on your own, talking to town people and explore new towns or dungeons. And as the article says, this should give you a unique way of adventure without having to always follow the host around. Also, the host don’t have to worry about important items being taken by friends who left the party. By talking to your friends’ characters, information about a town can be gathered quicker.

Friends’ Data

Dragon Quest IX: Hoshizora no MamoribitoYou can also check out your friends data by viewing the profiles card. Among the details on the card are Data that display online and offline play time, alchemist, battles won, title and number of quests taken; Completion Rate shows you how many percent of the game they have completed; and finally the lower screen display friends that they have played with and the amount of time spent with each of them.

Gestures

You can make gestures (above) like victory sign, bye bye and greeting to your friends and there are some rare gestures that can be unlocked in the game.

Entertainer Job Class

A new job class is revealed as well, he is a “Traveling Entertainer” who aim to cheer up the party and also stop the enemies by making them laugh. Among his attacking moves is the fire blowing and he is said be well balanced in both attack and defense.

Multiplayer Battles

Dragon Quest IX: Hoshizora no MamoribitoBattles in multiplayer mode is still the series’ command based system and there will be battles that are exclusively multiplayer only. Monsters are visible on the field and if any of the party members touch them, the battle will starts. Guests who wondered off the party can jump right into battle the host is in. And if you are host and need help, you can summon your friends who have wondered off to rejoin the party immediately.
